Apple and game developer Valve is rumored to be working towards creating an AR headset, according to DigiTimes. The device is expected to become available in 2020.
Industry sources say that head-mounted display devices made by Valve and Apple could make its way to the market by 2020 Q3 or Q4 at the earliest, with Taiwan-based Pegatron and Quanta Computer at the manufacturing helm.
Apple is said to lean more on the augmented reality aspect rather than the virtual reality in devices. Tim Cook, Apple CEO mentioned that digital content in the world of AR will become popular as the years go by.
The Cupertino-based company has been stepping up AR software development by acquiring more engineers for system architecture, interface and graphic design. However, in July Apple has stopped AR and VR headset development and opted on a collaborative work instead of having everything done in-house.
