Full Screen Touch ID Foregoes The Need For A Home Button, May Replace Face ID

.

Newer tech and patent can allow the Apple Touch ID to make a comeback and replace Face ID.

Full-screen Touch ID is the better version of Touch ID, and it doesn’t need a dedicated home button fingerprint sensor for it. The tech giant is currently considering turning the iPhone screen into a fingerprint reader via acoustic imaging.

Face ID is a facial recognition system that makes use of the iPhone’s TrueDepth camera array. With this configuration, edge-to-edge and clear display is definitely possible. However, there are instances when Face ID unlocks your iPhone in inopportune times.

A pair of patents show that Apple is re-thinking their Touch ID game. New technology brings acoustic pulse coding to replace previous Touch ID technology. These additions to future iPhones can make the device models look sleeker and entirely ditch the home screen altogether.

While this may sound exciting, keep in mind that Apple files about a dozen or so patents each week. Not all of them make the final cut, but it’s a peek to what the tech giant is thinking about.
