According to a French blog named iGeneration, Facebook is working on a Messenger app for macOS and Windows. The app is said to release later this year. However, the exact date of the release is still not known.

According to the screenshots and video available, it looks like the Facebook Messenger app really looks similar to Skype. The Messenger app is to have the same features as it has on the mobile app, which includes video calls, group video calls and much more.

It is expected that Facebook would introduce the Messenger app for macOS and Windows today at the FB keynote that starts at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. That being said, Facebook could unveil some new Messenger features too.
