Lutron has announced the addition of fan speed control to its Caséta smart lighting system, allowing users to wirelessly control ceiling fans from their iPhone or other mobile device as well as integrating them into Caséta scenes and schedules. The new fan control features expand the capabilities of the Caséta system, which already provides solid and reliable control of light fixtures, floor and table lamps, powered shades, and smart speakers, along with integrating into Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem. The highly-anticipated fan speed control is designed to be easy to install and setup, turning most standard ceiling fans into “smart” fans within minutes, and doesn’t require a fan canopy module, making for a quick installation. Four fan speeds are available, along with the ability to set favourite speed settings, and can be integrated into Caséta scenes and schedules using the Lutron smart bridge and app, and Lutron’s Pico remote can also be used to provide wireless control inside the home from a nightstand, coffee table, or couch. The fan control unit is compatible with a single 1.5-amp ceiling fan and requires a neutral wire for installation, and will be available in March for $80 in white, ivory, light almond, and black from most retailers where Caséta products are sold; the fan Pico remote will be sold separately for $42.
Update: Lutron let us know that Fan Control may not include HomeKit support when it initially ships, however the company is working on it and will announce availability details in the coming months. The Lutron Caseta app was one of the inaugural apps introduced with the Apple Watch, and Caseta by Lutron was one of the first products supported by HomeKit, and the company remains strongly committed to supporting the Apple ecosystem.
