Redmi Note 7, Redmi’s brand new phone was launched in China earlier this month. The mid-range Redmi phone that came with some interesting features including a 48MP primary camera, had its first flash sale end in minutes.

While the Chinese smartphone brand recently announced that the Redmi Note 7 will get Xiaomi Mi Mix 3’s Super Scene Camera feature it has now released two durability test footage. The durability tests likely meant to promote the phone (given Redmi is aiming to sell 1 million units of the phone by this month) shows the phone being thrown done the stairs in one video and another with a man skating on top of the phone.
In the first video, Redmi’s new CEO Lu Weibing is seen throwing the Redmi Note 7 down a staircase. The phone fell down 18 stairs and survived the test with no external damage. The test didn’t really seem to justify the Redmi Note 7’s durability as it was performed after putting the phone inside a trash can, sealing it with duct tape and then throwing it down the stairs.

The second video, however, shows something rather interesting and extreme. Lu uses two Redmi Note 7 phones as roller skates strapping a pair of rollers with the base resting on the screen and duct tape rolled around to hold the phones firmly. During the test, Lu manages to skate and move around for nearly a minute. Surprisingly, both the phones manage to handle pressure and survive the test with barely scratch or shattered glass. The Redmi Note 7’s durability certainly attributes to the phantom grade double-sided Corning Corilla Glass 5 body.

While the latest video manages to exhibit the phone’s sturdy build, this isn’t the first time Redmi touted its new Redmi Note 7’s build quality. Notably, before the phone’s launch, the company shared footage of its employees stomping on the Redmi Note 7’s screen several times. The phone survived the test without any external damage. The smartphone’s build quality was exposed in a teardown video as well. And recently, Xiaomi’s President Lin Bin shared footage of the phone smashing two walnuts. The 960fps slow-mo video said to be shot on a Mi 8 apparently showed the Redmi Note 7 smashing two walnuts that were placed on a table.
As mentioned earlier, the new Redmi Note 7 was launched on 10 January for a price starting at CNY 999 (around Rs 10,300). The phone features a 6.3-inch full HD+ display, 48 MP + 5MP dual rear camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC and 4000 mAh battery.
