While Huawei plans to launch its in-display selfie camera sporting Nova 4 on 17 December, Samsung will likely be beating them to the race with the launch of the Galaxy A8s on 10 December in China.
Samsung which was the first to showcase its Infinity-O display in early November will be launching its first smartphone with the front camera placed at the top left corner of the phone. The design appears to be almost identical to the one teased by Huawei for the Nova 4, but Samsung will make it to the finish line before Huawei does. Or so it seems.
It almost looks like Samsung was waiting for Huawei to announce the launch of the Nova 4 in China to arrive at a decision for launching the Galaxy A8s. Samsung took to its Weibo account to publish a poster of the launch, also revealing the overall design of the phone. The poster also resembles Huawei Nova 4 poster so Samsung is definitely not being subtle about its jab at Huawei here.
As per a report by GSMArena, the displays on both the Nova 4 and the Galaxy A8s are LCD units made by BOE, but the one used by Samsung on the A8s is the more premium of the two.
In terms of specifications, the Galaxy A8s is expected to feature a 6.3-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixel and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
Similar to the Oppo R17 Pro which launches in India, the phone is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset with up to 6 GB of RAM.
The front camera which sits inside the display will likely be a 24 MP unit while the rear features a triple-camera setup similar to the one seen on the Galaxy A7 this year.
