March 2019

Here in 2018, we are definitely living in the age of the photograph and simple photo editing is undoubtedly a big part of the appeal.

Visual social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat are gaining in popularity with younger generations, while more traditional ones, including Facebook and Twitter, are finding themselves with an increasingly mature audience.

Thanks to the ubiquitous smartphones we all carry around with us everywhere we go, it’s a rare thing for us to not be able to capture a picture of a special moment or a beautiful scene we find stretched out before us. Most cameras now also come with a range of photo editing tools which allow us to easily apply filters, crop images, and adjust contrast/brightness/saturation etc. to make sure our snaps look amazing before we upload them to our favourite social networks.

However, while the built-in tools we’ve already discussed may be more than suitable for your average amateur photophile, some will want more comprehensive and robust photo editing software with which to spruce up their images. Thankfully, for those people looking for a more professional package, there are a host of options out there to help your pictures look amazing.

Here are three of our favourite pieces of photo editing software for Windows 10.

Motorola’s upcoming Android One smartphone, touted to be called the One Vision, has been doing the internet round off late and now there’s more evidence to suggest that it may launch very soon.

While the major talking point about the phone has been its leaked specifications so far, the phone has now been spotted listed on Google’s ARCore website. Spotted first by MySmartprice, this may be seen as a key indicator of its imminent launch.

Talking about the device, previous leaks suggest the One Vision will feature a glossy finish body with curved edges. On the front, we will be looking at a 6.2-inch display with a punch-hole and an aspect ratio of 21:9 (similar to the Sony Xperia 1).

Interestingly, the phone could also be the first ever Motorola smartphone to feature a Samsung Exynos chipset. There have been reports which suggest that the One Vision will be powered by a 10 nm Exynos 9610 octa-core processor. The recently launched Samsung Galaxy A50 also came with the same Exynos chipset.

In addition, the Motorola One Vision is tipped to run Android 9.0 Pie OS and also feature a 48 MP primary rear-facing camera, supported by a 5 MP depth sensor.

The phone will likely come in 3 GB/4 GB RAM variants with either 32 GB/64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage. It is also expected to feature a 3,500 mAh battery.

The Motorola One Vision, in addition to China, is speculated to release in other international markets including India, Brasil and Latin America. When? Well, we don’t know that yet.

Spotify has begun testing a new Premium Duo plan. The bundle primarily created for couple offers a significantly discounted rate of two Premium subscriptions. It makes Spotify the only music streaming service offering the plan of a couple. However, it comes with a few cautions.

Just like its rival Apple Music, when you opt for its Premium plan, Spotify costs $ 9.99 a month for individual subscribers. There is also a family plan that is priced at $ 14.99 a month for up to six users. However, if you don’t need multiple accounts, a middle ground is perfect for two.

Spotify Premium Duo is ideal for couples

Spotify’s Premium Duo plan, now being tested in five countries, provides you with two Premium accounts for just € 12.49 (approx. $ 14) per month. It’s ideal for couples and roomies, who would normally pay for two accounts for $ 19.98 a month.

However, There’s a catch, both subscribers must live at the same address to qualify for a Premium Duo plan like Spotify’s Family Plan. Moreover, if you choose to opt for Premium Duo subscription, you will be required to confirm your address.

Spotify users in Ireland, Colombia, Chile, Denmark and Poland currently can sign-up for Premium Duo plan. The company still needs to confirm, when it will expand its reach to other countries.

When it comes to VPNs, or virtual private networks, anonymity is everything.

For years, users from around the world have been turning to VPNs to help encrypt their communications, unblock geographically restricted content, or both. With an ever-growing demand for more privacy and security—and an ongoing struggle against government overreach—VPNs have become synonymous with personal freedom.

That said, not every VPN should be treated the same. Free VPNs, for instance, often come with malware or trackers—or are just not very effective. If you’re going to use a VPN, you’re better off with a subscription-based service.

ExpressVPN

That’s where ExpressVPN comes in. As one of the world’s largest VPN providers, ExpressVPN offers dedicated VPN apps for virtually every device; it also promises a 30-day money-back guarantee—one of the most generous deals in the business.

No record of users’ activity

Unlike other VPN providers, ExpressVPN is based in the British Virgin Islands, which means it doesn’t have to comply with the strict data retention laws that apply to VPNs based in the U.S. or EU. More than that, the company guarantees that it will never keep activity logs or monitor user network traffic—a feature you won’t get with most free VPNs.

With tons of anonymous payment options (including Bitcoin), you simply need a valid email address to get started.

When it comes to security, ExpressVPN is second to none. Each VPN app uses military-grade encryption and comes with a host of privacy features, including a built-in kill switch, DNS leak checker, and more.

With unlimited bandwidth and server switches, users can instantly secure any open hotspot and browse the web without worry.

ExpressVPN

Superior customer support and server speeds

But where ExpressVPN really shines is in its customer service. While most VPN companies tend to be touch and go, ExpressVPN is one of the few providers to offer true 24/7 live customer support.

ExpressVPN also delivers some of the fastest VPN server speeds on the market. Its unique Smart Location feature automatically connects you to the optimal server location (usually the one closest to you), and its customizable apps feature a range of VPN protocol options—making it easier to browse based on your specific needs.

With more than 140 VPN locations in 94 countries around the world, you’re never shy of options. Plus, ExpressVPN’s service is even compatible with a wide range of popular third-party devices and software, including Kodi, Amazon Fire, Xbox, and more.

With a single subscription covering up to three devices simultaneously, you can download the VPN app on your phone, desktop, and tablet. And if you want even more protection, you can take advantage of ExpressVPN’s dedicated router apps and instantly add comprehensive VPN security to every internet-enabled device in your home.

Try it today and see for yourself

No VPN with this many features comes at a bargain-basement price, but ExpressVPN is worth paying a little extra for.

With a robust security package, tons of accessible apps, and an extra generous 30-day money-back guarantee, you can try ExpressVPN today with no risk. And if you select the 12-month plan, you’re able to get three full months of free service.

If you care about your privacy and are in the market for a powerful VPN service that’s dedicated to supporting its customer base, ExpressVPN is the way to go.

Get ExpressVPN for all your devices today.

Until now, Valve was pictured as a helping partner to HTC to build its Vive headsets.

Valve has now quietly released its first official image of their upcoming VR headset. Based on the photo and the name of the Steam page, the headset seems to be named The Valve Index.

Valve teases its VR headset for the first time, will likely be named Valve Index

Valve’s VR headset will likely be called The Valve Index. Image: Valve

The image of the headset was posted on its website with scarce details and promise of more information in May.

Valve, the company behind popular gaming titles such as Half-Life, Portal, and Dota 2, also runs the Steam online game store.

Until now, Valve was pictured as a helping partner to HTC to build its Vive headsets. With Valve coming up with its own headset is likely to surprise the existing players, CNET reports.

As per a report by Kotaku, Valve has been working on their own VR headset for a while now. The company will also very likely planning on releasing advanced controllers that will likely work with this headset.

What’s more, is that Valve is also likely working on a new Half-Life game that will likely be launched with ‘The Valve Index’.

The image posted on the website does not hint at any specifications, but given that Valve has been behind technology powering the Vive headsets, one can expect the Valve Index to be a high-end device.

Facebook says some of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s posts on the social media site were deleted due to technical errors.

The company says it is unclear which posts were deleted. Facebook says the posts were mistakenly deleted a few years ago and the work required to restore them was extensive and might not have worked.

Facebook says some of Mark Zuckerberg’s older posts were inadvertently deleted

Image: Reuters

The deleted posts were first reported by Business Insider. All posts from 2007 and 2008 have been deleted, according to the report.

The report notes that the total number of posts that have disappeared could be significantly higher, as the nature of the issue makes it difficult to account for what exactly what has gone missing over the years. Facebook’s spokesperson was not aware of how many posts were deleted.

As per a report by Engadget, Facebook went ahead and added a public “notes” tab to its Facebook page after Business Insider noted that old blog posts weren’t being found.

The way Facebook shares company information has changed over the years. It introduced its current “Newsroom” page in 2014 and shares and archives major company announcements there.

However, Zuckerberg’s Facebook posts did represent an integral part of the company’s history and served as key pointers to how he’s run the social media giant over its formative years. Their absence makes it harder to understand his thinking behind key decisions, especially given how reluctant he is to posting on social media or coming on air.

Whether it’s for HR, CRM, or project management, small business software should be cost-effective and save you time and effort.

For smaller scale enterprises whose budgets can’t stretch too far, business software first and foremost needs to be economical. This doesn’t necessarily mean cheap in the low-quality sense – but value for money is definitely an important factor.

Software should also prove its worth in the time it saves on routine tasks, the improvements it can offer in operational efficiency and user performance, and its ability to integrate with and streamline various business functions.

Applications should be fully compatible with any existing systems and hardware the business already owns, and able to run on an organisation’s existing physical and service infrastructure. With a workforce which may be based outside of a traditional office, support for cloud services and mobile apps is also a must.

business software

Accounting Software

Even though information is the strongest currency in the digital economy, tracking and managing the flow of money and other financial assets remains at the core of business, for companies large and small.

The software which enables them to do this must be fully featured, but friendly enough to enable users who aren’t accountants or financial experts to easily get to grips with its tools and features – especially at the small business end of the spectrum, where many organisations have sole proprietors who need to juggle several different roles, including finance manager.

Most new and existing accounts packages for small business are now entirely cloud-based. Integration with dedicated mobile apps is also common, as remote and travelling workers need access to enterprise finance systems from any location. The move to the cloud has resulted in a simplifying of the user interfaces for most of these products making them quicker to load on mobile data and potentially spotty Wi-Fi.

FileHippo recommends: QuickBooks accounting software

QuickBooks

QuickBooks from Intuit has made the transition from desktop accounting software to cloud-based finance management platform, combining user-friendliness and ease of use with an affordable and comprehensive set of accounting tools.

There’s built-in guidance and live support to assist businesses in keeping track of transactions, invoices, and inventory, with the ability to link receipts to expenses directly from your phone. Reporting tools include profit & loss, expenses, and balance sheets, and there are payroll and taxation management tools as well.

QuickBooks offers a 30-day free trial version which you can test run before choosing between the Self-Employed ($5/month), Simple Start ($10/month), Essentials $17/month) and Plus ($30/month) versions of the program.

CRM Software

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software empowers small businesses to manage customer data. This information may be used to reveal sales and marketing opportunities, customer preferences, and how best to craft sales funnels or design promotional campaigns. Data is used to better understand clients, and to build stronger relationships with them.

CRM software typically contains tools for gathering and analysing data from a variety of sources, such as eCommerce portals, websites, phone calls, help centres, email, and social media. Since even the smallest businesses may have several points of contact with consumers these days, the software must also be capable of co-ordinating and updating the flow of information and analysis from these various channels.

CRM software should help a small business to increase its sales or service provision, improve the reach of its brand, streamline customer-related business processes, and make intelligent and actionable decisions based on the results of its analysis. All of this should be done while preserving the integrity and security of customer information, and with a small business software package that doesn’t break the bank.

FileHippo recommends: Copper CRM software

copper crm software

Copper CRM (formerly ProsperWorks) offers a “zero data entry” approach to its operations, automatically capturing information from your contacts lists, email, and other account details.

As well as synchronisation with Gmail, there’s integration with Google Calendar and Hangouts for tracking leads and sales opportunities, collaboration via Google Drive and Team Drive, and a Chrome extension for updating opportunities, adding contacts, retrieving account histories, and managing deals directly from your inbox.

A Basic plan with Copper CRM costs $19 per user, per month, while the Professional plan costs $49 per user, per month. As your business grows, you can upgrade to the Business plan to incorporate a larger number of users. You can also try a 14-day trial before making any purchases to see if Copper CRM works for you.

HR Software

Even with fewer than 100 employees keeping track of everyone can be a daunting prospect, but HR software can save small business managers time, effort, and headaches.

Onboarding new hires, training and reviews for existing staff, plotting career paths, processing payrolls, managing health, social services, and retirement plans, all contribute to the workload. 69% of surveyed businesses stated executing HR processes smoothly and efficiently is their greatest challenge. HR software should be capable of streamlining all these tasks, reducing the amount of paperwork and time spent on them, and assisting management in becoming and remaining organised.

FileHippo recommends: BambooHR software

bamboohr hr software

BambooHR includes several modules for doing just that, including an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to help in recruiting the best candidates, automated management of time-off requests, eSignature tool for officially stamping and distributing digital documents relating to HR, onboarding tutorials and messages, secure and centralised database for all employee information, streamlined and customisable work-flows, custom performance reviews and HR reporting tools.

BambooHR has a free trial, after which users can visit the website to get a free quotation based on their needs.

Office Suite

For small business use, an office suite should function as a word processor, create spreadsheets and graphical content, PDF files, and any other document needed.

FileHippo recommends: Zoho Docs Office Suite

zoho docs office software

Zoho Docs is a cloud-based document creation platform that enables users to store and manage all their documents on remote servers. Secure file sharing, synchronisation, task management, and online collaboration are available for spreadsheets, presentations, and Microsoft Word-compatible documents. There’s support for mobile device access, and co-ordination of the system via a software-based administration console.

The free version of Zoho Docs covers up to 25 users and allows for a file upload limit of 1GB with saving of up to 25 versions of a single file, which is plenty to get your team started.

The Standard Edition costs $5/user/month (billed monthly) or $4/user/month (billed annually) plus tax. This includes all the features of the free version, and extends storage allowances to 100GB per user, with a 5GB file upload limit, and unlimited file versions.

Zoho Docs Premium costs $8/user/month (billed monthly) or $6.4/user/month (billed annually) plus tax. This extends file storage limits to 1TB per user, and the file upload limit to 25GB, with support for Active Directory groups and unlimited file recovery.

Project Management Software

Project management software provides tools and features to help small businesses plan and track projects with facilities for storing, manipulating, and analysing information.

Small business software for project management usually includes tools for task management, collaboration, work-flow visualisation, user access management, document management, and reporting. Since many projects require the production of documents, charts, visuals, and other content, there’s often integration with document creation software, and file storage / sharing platforms.

Owners of small businesses who are looking for a user-friendly and cost-effective project management system will often go for a cloud-based solution, as these platforms tend to be intuitively designed, require no maintenance or infrastructure provision from the user, are adaptable for changing numbers of users, and can be accessed from any system or device with an internet connection.

FileHippo recommends: Asana project management software

Asana project management software

Asana enables users to create visual plans to map out each stage of a project, with tools for setting priorities and deadlines, sharing information, and assigning tasks. The new Timeline feature gives managers an overview of everything that’s going on. It’s the project management software of choice for the Tribeca Film Festival and the Melia Hotels International chain, among others.

Asana Lite is a free plan that offers unlimited tasks, projects, and conversations with basic search facilities for up to 15 team members, perfect for small businesses.

As your team grows, it may be worth investing in Asana Premium for more functionality and support. It features the new Timeline, unlimited team members, advanced search and reporting, with Google SSO support, administrative controls, custom fields, and several other features.

Final Thoughts

Whatever the needs of your company – HR software, CRM software, project management software, and more – you’ll find a selection of small business software reviews and free downloads here at FileHippo.

Samsung introduced its flagship Galaxy S10 series in February this year. At its global Unpacked event, the South Korean tech giant showcased its first foldable phone and Galaxy S10 5G version as well.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G pricing details revealed, likely to cost around <img class=

But while Samsung revealed the conventional specifications of the Galaxy S10 5G variant at the event, the company didn’t share any details regarding the phone’s pricing. However, a new report now suggests that the 5G version of the Galaxy S10 could come for of around $1,220 (roughly Rs 84,720) for the base model and go all the way up to $1,365 (roughly Rs 94,790) for the high-end 512 GB storage model. The information comes via the Korean media outlet ETNews.

The report further reveals that Samsung will likely release its first 5G phone in Korea on 5 May. The company initially expected to launch the Galaxy S10 5G version this month, however, the launch was delayed due to ‘industrial players’ not being ready.

As mentioned, the Galaxy S10 5G version was revealed at the Samsung Unpacked event in San Francisco on 20 February. The phone features a bigger screen and battery as compared to the other siblings in the Galaxy S10 series. The Galaxy S10 5G sports an extra large 6.7-inch “Dynamic” AMOLED display with a resolution of 3,040 x 1,440 pixels. The phone has a wide cutout that accommodates the two front-facing cameras.

For photography, the phone offers triple rear cameras consisting of a 12 MP primary camera, a 12 MP telephoto lens and a 16 MP ultra wide-angle lens. The Galaxy S10 5G has a ToF camera as well both which provides 3D depth information. Under the hood sits either an Exynos 9820 SoC or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor depending on the region.

The Galaxy S10 5G has an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner similar to the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 Plus. The phone packs a 4,500 mAh battery and supports Wireless PowerShare that charges the handset via any Qi-compatible device. Previous reports have suggested that the phone will likely hit stores in the US on 5 April. If the reports are to believed then Samsung might have an edge in the 5G segment given Huawei’s Mate X and Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 5G are expected to arrive only later.

Here are three great alternatives to Photoshop for Mac.

Adobe Photoshop may have been the presiding force in photo-editing on Mac for the best part of 30 years, but it’s no longer the only show in town. In fact, a quick Google Safari based search shows that there are tons of options available for image editing on Mac.

From the humble novice who simply wants to crop a photo, to the talented amateur who wants to do more, to the full flung professional photographers, artists and graphic designers who want it all, there’s an alternative for everyone.

It can be challenging to find photo editors that stand out from the crowd these days, but we’ve found three distinct photo editors that are all worthy Photoshop alternatives. Each of the alternatives we’ve chosen focus on a particular aspect of Photoshop and take it to the next level.

CyberlinkPhoto Director Ultra

CyberLink PhotoDirector Ultra – best for simply clever photo editing

PhotoDirector Ultra is an all in one photo editor and manager package and a really good option for both automatic and manual editing tools. The interface is beautifully crafted while retaining a simplicity of use that will appeal to photographers of all levels and abilities.

At first glance, PhotoDirector can seem somewhat intimidating to the novice editor, but the editing tools are intuitive to use, and a brief 10-minute whizz through some of the helpful guides and tutorials should have you editing away quickly like a pro in no time. Frequent fliers of photo editing apps will feel right at home and perhaps be surprised by the sheer array of extensive editing options.

Essentially, editing tools are split between basic and advanced. Like Photoshop, PhotoDirector Ultra includes layer editing, so you can get clever and really transform your photos. It also includes some really incredible features for video-to-photo editing, and 360° photo editing.

Not only does PhotoDirector let you edit, correct and transform photos with an extensive set of editing tools it also comes with a fantastic photo management system, letting you plough through thousands of photos and easily find the one you need.

Purists may dislike or scoff the ‘for the masses,’ approach of PhotoDirector, but we don’t think that’s a bad thing. As well as the above, PhotoDirector Ultra also lets you upload directly to the likes of Facebook, YouTube and other social media platforms, which is nice.

We also thought the uniquely easy to use Face Swap tool is a real selling point, allowing as it does, the easy moving of people from one photo to another.

Overall, PhotoDirector Ultra is a powerful photo editor that makes editing and sharing photos relatively simple and straightforward, while managing your photo collection becomes a breeze.

Luminar

Luminar – best for detailed photo touch-ups

Luminar photo editor for Mac is another powerful, all-in-one photo suite that is positively overflowing with useful tools and versatile filters that rivals, and in someways betters parts of both Photoshop and Adobe’s other main dog in the fight, Lightroom.

Again, like Photo Director, a ten-minute sojourn playing with the interface should have you editing with ease. But for the power Luminar seems to have under its belt, the interface is incredibly easy to use, with several one-click ‘automatic’ enhancers.

Luminar is a great choice for both beginners and professional users. The app lets you choose from dozens of presets that do a great job of quickly enhancing pictures but also has the depth and advanced tools available for use by professionals. There’s a Clone tool, Stamp tool, Fast Object Removal, and noise reduction.

While Luminar perhaps it is not quite as advanced as Photoshop (mainly due to its lack of advanced painting capabilities), it does put Lightroom to shame, and costs a lot less.

The sheer number of filters that come with Luminar is also staggering, and is worth the purchase price alone. It’s worth noting that it can also be used as a plug-in to improve Lightroom if that’s what you use already.

The Sun Rays filter though is something else. It is breathtaking at how well it works. Just move the sun wherever you want in your picture and the rays adjust magically around the trees or buildings foliage in your image. Breathtaking.

Corel Painter 2019

Corel Painter – best for photo and image painting

Corel Painter is the perfect photoshop alternative for digital artists who want to showcase their creativity. It is a fully equipped digital art studio that can help you turn your favorite images into amazing photo art.

Corel Painter is squarely aimed at professionals, but is still a lot of fun, if a bit advanced. It comes with over 600 different brushes and can create just about every type of natural media in existence.

With an extensive array of tools, you can get really creative with your edits and create some masterpieces. Essentially, if you are looking for a real alternative to Photoshop, then Corel Painter is probably what you consider looking for.

The 2019 edition of Corel Painter is a step above its previous edition, introducing an all-around more enjoyable user experience. It has an updated, dark UI, significant speed and perfromance improvements, and 36 additional brushes to use.

If you’re an aspiring photo artist, Corel Painter can help you to more easily transform your photos into spectacular works of art. With auto-painting and cloning tools, and one-of-a-kind image painting features, it gives you everything you need for advanced creative photo editing.

Final thoughts

While there’s no denying that Adobe Photoshop is truly magnificent beast of software used by professional graphic designers and photographers the world over there are other options that are just as good, if not better.

Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn reported a smaller than expected fall in quarterly profit, despite warning signs from key customers including Apple Inc that demand for tech electronics is softening.

Apple supplier Foxconns profit falls in the fourth quarter despite key warning signs

Foxconn. Image: Reuters

Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, reported net profit of T$62.61 billion ($2.03 billion) for the final three months of 2018 on Friday. That was 12.6 percent below the year-earlier results, the company said in a statement.

The result beat a mean estimate of T$36.64 billion ($1.19 billion) from eight analysts, according to data from Refinitiv. It was also the biggest quarterly profit the company has posted for 2018.

Analysts had forecast a steeper decline on account of the higher base a year earlier due to a T$66 billion disposal gain from sale of Sharp’s special shares, as well as sluggish iPhone demand amid a tepid smartphone market.

But a company official said on Friday that the better-than-expected profit was driven by revenue growth. He did not elaborate.

Foxconn acquired control of Japan’s Sharp in 2016 to try to boost the Taiwanese company’s advanced screen technology.

For 2018 as a whole, Foxconn’s net profit totalled T$129.1 billion, down 6.9 percent from 2017, the company said.

Lewis Liao, an analyst at Fubon Research in Taipei, said ahead of the results that investors are now looking to a possible recovery of iPhone sales in the second half, which could boost profits for Taiwanese manufacturers including Foxconn.

The prolonged downturn in global tech demand is likely to hit profits for the island’s many technology manufacturers this year. United Microelectronics Corp, Taiwan’s second-biggest contract chipmaker, said February sales fell about 12 percent on-year.

Foxconn Technology said in February it will build a factory in Wisconsin after the company’s chairman Terry Gou spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump, following a Reuters report that the Taiwanese company was reconsidering its plans.

Shares of Foxconn rose 2.4 percent on Friday ahead of the results, beating the benchmark share price index. They are up 2.9 percent this year after falling 30 percent last year.

Image management software is simply a must these days – but what is the right option for you?

It’s never been so easy to take, store and edit photos. The downside to this is that we often get lazy; too shy to scroll through thousands of Camera Roll images.

We may just upload them all to our Mac for safe keeping. Relying on its excellent storage to take away the burden of deleting is all well and good, however we will always have to sort through them at some stage.

This is where image management software comes in. Not only can it help take away the stress of sorting through scores of images, the software can also improve and edit your snaps.

We’ve put together a short explanation of why Image Manager Software may be something to consider, whether you’re a lone Mac user or a business.

Just because we’re extra helpful we’ve also compared and described three of the latest software offerings of this kind – and added the information about how to download and start using them!

So, read on and find out how you can declutter your photo library and clear your mind.

An Image Management Software could revolutionise your photo organisation.

An Image Management Software could revolutionise your photo organisation.

What is image management software?

Simply put, this type of software allows you to organise, view, edit, distribute and make the most out of your digital photo library.

Yes, we know you’ll already have a built-in photo library, but image management software goes further.

In most cases this software will, as the name suggests, allow the user to manage how the imagery is used. Privacy and copyright options are very important these days, and the software will also – more often than not – enable you to deal with images in batches.

Why do you need it?

There is a wide range of reasons why you should be installing image management software on your Mac right now.

You will know as an individual how different it is to manage images. If you’re being honest, what percentage of your Camera Roll is made up of unwanted or improvable images?

Ok, so now imagine you’re a business and have a marketing team managing a vast array of imagery for different campaigns. It is clear that, whether you’re an individual or part of a big group, image management software is vital.

You can keep your files up to date, available or restricted to team members and easier to share with others. You can also access them quicker than ever, promoting flexibility and efficiency.

Archiving, backups, usage tracking, tagging, album creation and customisation are also big benefits.

But how do I know which image management software is best for me?

Fear not, we’ve got your back. Here are three of some of our favourite new additions to the image management software world. There’s even a handy table to help you on your way.

Twitter is releasing a new dark mode option called “Lights Out” for its iOS app later today. Twitter already had a dark mode, however, the new “Lights Out” feature is much darker.

With the normal dark mode option enabled, the background is changed to a gray color. However, with the new Lights Out feature, it turns the background completely black.

The Lights Out feature don’t only change the background black but also saves a lot of battery. Since the iPhone comes with an OLED display, only the colored pixels are turned on while pixels that need to display a black color are actually off.

This feature will not be available on Twitter’s Android App and is only to work on Twitter’s iOS App at the moment. However, it’s not clear whether Twitter is working on the Lights Out feature Android. So those who use Twitter a lot and has an iOS device are lucky to have this feature.

The Twitter team has shared a video on their Twitter account, that guides its users on how the Lights Out feature can be enabled on the iOS App. The video can be found below:

Have you tried out the new Lights Out feature? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro is getting a lot of attention right now. So, we’ve had a play around with it to discover how video editing perfection can be achieved seamlessly thanks to this new program.

It goes without saying that having access to high-quality video editing software is of the utmost importance, even in 2018.

Nowadays we are capturing more high-standard video content than ever before, but video editing is still essential and takes your footage to the next level.

Whether you’re looking to sharpen or enhance features, or just fancy trimming and merging video, you’re bound to find scores of software up to the task. However, Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro has to be up there with the very best and we think it has unlocked a new level.

With more video tweaking and optimising features than once imaginable, this program will truly revolutionise your editing capabilities while not breaking the bank. Appropriate for beginners and professionals working across a range of industries alike, Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro is a standout piece of software.

Not only does it offer an enjoyable and seamless experience of enhancing video, it also facilitates the opportunity for great results. During this review we will explore how it excels in three areas in particular; perfecting videos, handling action content and providing impeccable usability.

Perfect your videos

As mentioned, Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro boasts a fine array of features designed to allow the user to seamlessly perfect videos.

The wide range of automatic features really impressed us as soon as we downloaded it. You can solve frustrations like lens distortion, blurriness, camera shakes and even noise issues within just a few clicks – so satisfying!

The built-in-editor then supports the cropping, sharpening, rotating and merging of video clips, while a far-reaching choice of filters help to provide that instant polish. Moreover, reducing flicker and optimising white balance, contrasts and colours can also be achieved without worry.

The beginners among you, and even some novice editors, may be thinking ‘rotating and cropping video, that sounds tricky’ – well, not with Ashampoo’s latest offering. We were amazed at how fast, straightforward and effective the whole experience was.

By stabilising footage and carrying out all of the above, this program excels in getting the best out of any video content. That’s true of footage shot on the finest camera or even from a mobile phone or action cam, but we’ll speak more about this in a moment.

So, whether you’ve shot your video in poor lighting or a noisy environment, have no fear. The features available through Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro will help clear it all up.

In truth the program provides a complete video editing and perfecting package.

Achieve video ediitng perfection with Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro. Quick start screenshot

Use Quick mode to batch-edit and apply effects to multiple video clips at once.

Perfect usability

To be fair, by just going on the previously mentioned featured alone, Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro has already proved why it can compete with the more expensive suite options out there.

However, the German software developer has pulled out all the stops to ensure that users will be using a program which triumphs in performance – and usability – alike.

Providing ease of use, even for the most professional of features, means that this program is ideal for all user levels. An obvious example of this is the choice between Quick and Advanced edit modes, both providing fast access to multiple features but considering different skill-sets.

Budding videographers editing home movies can use this software as a foundation for their video optimising education. Getting to grips with easy-to-use sliders and pre-sets can help show them the basics, while also saving time and creating quality results.

Meanwhile experienced professionals, wedding or freelance videographers for example, can also experience the efficiency and effectiveness of the program. Time will be saved thanks to batch-processing and it is also possible to add metadata to content – we can hear the videographer cheers already! It really does take just one click to process it all in one go, a magical feeling.

The batch-processing feature, which also supports individual settings for each video, is just one of many simple added features that cannot be underestimated in their inclusion. Together with the different editing modes and pre-sets, it will ensure significant improvements without the need for user intervention.

We loved it, and the other time-saving features often unavailable or limited in other editors. It’s great to see advanced results can be achieved without the need for complexity, a friendly interface and common-sense settings really make all the difference.

Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro is also available in several key languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish. But the visual language is also a major victory, guiding any user through the editing experience warmly by the hand but also with confidence and an educational tone.

Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro advanced

Easily organise and professionally enhance your video clips.

Perfect for Action

Not only does this program surely rank among the top video editors out there, it is also perfect for enhancing all kinds of action video – no matter how it was shot.

Firstly, users can look forward to spending more time filming in the great outdoors as opposed to being stuck inside editing. This is thanks to built-in features like fisheye removal and image stabilisation, meaning distortions caused by a wide-angle lens of an action or drone cam can be fixed, almost instantly.

Thanks to high-performance image stabilisation capabilities, GoPro or handheld shots taken in motion can become smoother and yet more realistic. This makes Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro truly perfect for GoPro and drone footage, as well as smart phones and digital cameras.

Add drama to your videos thanks to brilliant time-lapse and slow-motion features. The creators knew that cams often run at 60fps, so they added speed manipulation – which again, we are very impressed by.

Pre-sets for all common models are included within the program, catering for; GoPro, Garmin VIRB, Drift HD and Ghost, as well as customisable device profiles. Again, don’t worry about cameras splitting up long recordings into smaller files, Pro’s merge feature comes to the rescue.

Final Thoughts

We really could type for hours about our excitement and great experience using Ashampoo Video Optimizer Pro. It really doesn’t skimp on any video optimisation features, and once it provides them it does so in an easy to understand yet clinical way.

Using the program, we understood Ashampoo’s messaging about using multiple visual effects to help add an individual touch. Rookie and expert videographers alike will be enjoying adding vibrancy and vividness to videos, thanks to contrast and colour optimisation.

This and the fine wealth of other special features will no doubt allow your content to stand out, wherever you post it. Which, of course, is vital these days. Congratulations Ashampoo, you’ve created something special here.

WhatsApp beta for Android gets consecutive voice messages feature, improved PiP mode

Representational image.

WABetaInfo just recently revealed the cross-messaging platform to be working on Forwarding Info and Frequent Forwarding feature to tackle the spread of fake news on the platform. And the site now claims that WhatsApp has rolled out another beta update that brings consecutive voice message functionality. The changes are said to have arrived in beta v2.19.86 for Android.

The new consecutive voice messages feature allows for auto-playing multiple voice messages that are being sent one after the other. The feature had been under works since November last year and it was first spotted on WhatsApp beta version 2.18.100 for iOS.

Additionally, the latest beta update is said to bring improvements to the PiP (picture-in-picture) mode. To recall, WhatsApp released the PiP mode for iOS in May last year and it later extended the feature on Android platform in December. While the PiP mode for iOS allowed users to navigate between chats while the videos are being played, the mode for Android had the limitation of playing video only inside a chat.

However, the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android has now brought an improved PiP mode that functions similar to iOS. With the improved PiP mode, WhatsApp users on Android will be able to play video in a small window even if they exit the chat, minimise the app or switch to another app. Apparently, the tweaks in PiP are disabled by default in the latest beta. There is no timeline provided as to when the PiP mode will go live, however, the report notes that the PiP improvements will only be available on devices running Android 8.0 Oreo and above.

Apple has canceled its plans for the AirPower wireless charging mat that they promised. According to Techcrunch, Apple’s senior VP of hardware Dan Riccio had confirmed that Apple will no longer work on the AirPower.

Dan Riccio has made the following statement regarding why Apple has decided to drop its plan for the AirPower:

After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward.

The AirPower is actually a charging mat that would charge any latest iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods wirelessly all at the same time. Upon releasing the new AirPods 2, Apple even mentioned that those new AirPods box would work on Apple’s upcoming AirPower wireless charging mat.

While Apple may have canceled its plans for the AirPower, there are many alternatives available on the market which are very similar to the one that Apple had designed. According to some sources, this could be one of Apple’s main reasons for dropping the AirPower project. Many Chinese companies have been making a clone of the AirPower charging mat for years now that are selling off for just $30 while Apple had trouble figuring out how they could sell there’s for $200.

Were you waiting for Apple’s AirPower? let us know in the comments below.
